The commitment to the protection of the biodiversity of the farm laborers cooperatives feeds a virtuous circle with positive and direct effects on pollinators and beekeeping
CABs are attractive to bees: about 12 thousand hectares of agricultural land, with a great variety of crops (17% organic), of which over 800 have been re-naturalized with permanent woods, groves, hedges, wet meadows, pulp, a series of investments , achieved above all in the last 20 years also thanks to Community policies, for a dynamic and balanced ecosystem restoration to protect biodiversity.
"These investments have now also taken on an important environmental value, wonderfully enriching the landscape", explains Patrizi.
In fact, on these surfaces, in addition to the arboreal and shrubby essences, spontaneous herbs of various species grow with scalar blooms over time that guarantee the supply for all pollinating insects, including bees, which find the nourishment necessary for their sustenance, even when the crops to be fertilized are not in bloom.
“Over the years we have realized that these environments are increasingly populated by the local fauna and that the soil is richer in organic matter and organisms useful for the development of plants, such as invertebrates, insects, fungi and bacteria. Not only that, the presence of many insects supports the productivity both in terms of quantity and quality of seed crops, productions for which CABs express a real vocation, contributing to their pollination. For this reason - concludes Patrizi - the presence of hives, especially in the vicinity of these natural elements and the crops to be pollinated, is fundamental ”.
Finally, the attention paid to the correctness of agronomic processing is decisive, in compliance with the regulations and protocols in defense of the pollinators.
